Things for kids to remember:
- Digital communications are not anonymous
- Digital communications are permanantly ephemeral
- Actions can have unintended consequences
- Things may not be as they seem
- Protect your passwords-- you are responsible for your account!
Things for adults to remember:
- The World... is a' Changin'--
- social, ethical, legal aspects of interaction
- "They are just being kids..."
- Adults must take control over technology
- View digital behavior as all behavior
- Let kids know you know... (92% versus 34%)
- An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure
Things for parents to remember:
- Keep computers in public rooms at home
- Protect administrator accounts
- Agree on usernames & passwords for your kids' accounts
- "Would you let your kids drive without supervision?"
Things for schools to remember:
- Are you really about life-long learning?-- parents, teachers, community
- Place limits on technology (what you own and what kids own)
- Develop a policy on cyberbullying
