Just as there are many approaches to helping youngsters become readers, writers, and mathematicians, and those approaches lead to different models of classroom practice, there are many approaches to using computer in classrooms, and those lead to different models of classroom practice.

The continuum below summarizes different approaches and models of using computers in classrooms. 

 
  Computers as Extra Computers as Subject Computers as Tool Computers as Mindtools
  ... learners use computers as a reward (e.g for finishing early) are as a distraction when "real work" is not occurring ... learners are taught how to use the computer or taught about the computer ... learners find and present information using computers
