Animations

One feature that differentiates digital presentations from hardcopy presentations (such as overheads sheets and 35mm slides) is that digital presentations can easily incorporate dynamic components and sounds.  Although such features can prove distracting if overused, animations, sounds, and video can serve to make presentations more understandable and to help speakers make points.

Custom Animations-- To animate the objects on a page, click custom animation under the slide show menu to open the custom animation task pane.  Select an object on the slide (by clicking) and then click the add effects button and point the mouse to an action on the submenu to see the animation options for that action.  The actions enter and exit have the option more effects, and clicking that will open a dialogue box with many options for animating the appearance or disappearance of objects. Once an object has been animated, it appears in the animation list in the task pane and additional controls for modifying the timing, speed and direction of the animation become active.  The order in which animations occur is determined by the order (from first to last) in the animation list in the task pane.  A drop down menu is found on each animation in the list and that allows users to easily open a dialogue box for adjusting the effect properties including the way text is grouped if the object contains editable text (as opposed to text in WordArt).
