If teachers are not engaged in unit level lesson planning in the summer, then what do they do during summer professional development?  I propose the following goals for effective summer courses and workshops:
  1. Place Your Practice on a Progress Continuum
  2. Define Benchmarks of Progress
  3. Create a Set of Guiding Principles
  4. Become Independent
  5. Know Where to Get Help
