Become Independent

In ideal professional development situations, teachers have unlimited access to support materials and people as they begin to implement plans made during summer institutes. The reality, however, is that as plans are implemented, teachers are alone with their understanding, their plans, and their students.  To be successful, teachers implementing new practice must be capable of functioning independently at whatever level they will function.  To become an independent practitioner:
bullet

find a level of implementation at which you are confident;

bullet

be prepared for potential problems... by understanding the problems you are likely to encounter, you will come to a deeper understanding of the practice and you will have some idea about how to solve those problems.
