Introduction MySpace & Other Communities Instant Messaging & Chatting Cyberbullying Strategies for Minimizing Risk Strategies for Being Proactive Resources for Adults	Some steps adults can take to be proactive: Encourage positive interactions with peers & positive digital work Talk about the risks Talk about the rules you find on web sites Let your kids know you are aware Get your own account on your kids' IM systems... add them to your "buddy list" Keep your kids offline when they are angry at friends Check your kids' sites Set up accounts together... you get to know the password then! Encourage kids to police their own sites... pull inappropriate content posted by friends Learn to use whatever controls are provided by online communities (e.g. censoring & controlling who posts) Remind kids that content can be permanant... downloaded images can reappear anytime! Let kids know that college admissions offices and employers frequently "google" applicants
