Some steps adults can take to minimize risk:
  • Check out MySpace and the other online communities to see what kids in your community are posting... share what you find... with parents and with school officials
  • Consider subscribing to an Internet filter
  • Consider installing software for filtering conent, limiting time, or monitoring computer use
  • If you have a network at home... learn to configure your router and install VNC
  • Keep computers in public areas
  • Visual vigilance
  • Talk with your kids about the risks... share the scary stories
  • Talk with kids about being anonymous... let your kids know when you protect your data and how you do it
  • Consider using a safety pledgeonline safety pledge
