When I was an undergraduate student, my major was science education. Specifically, I wanted to be a biology teacher; within biology, I was primarily interested in zoology. I took a botany course to meet distraction requirements, and immediately enjoyed the smaller class (most of the courses like cel biology and animal physiology were filled with large number of pre-med majors) and in time enjoyed the research projects that were integrated into the botany lab curriculum.
While I enjoyed the botany course, I returned the next term for zoology courses. I found that I really missed to research we had done in botany lab. I asked the teaching assistant about the potential, and his response was “if you want to do research, yoi need to go to graduate school.”
I did know how to do research, however. I went to see my advisor and we revised my graduation plan to include as many botany courses as we could.
