Several years ago, I was asked to gather some “data” regarding “how our school technology is doing.” I was familiar with technology acceptance model, and intended to ground my answers to the inquiry in data collected with a valid and reliable instrument. Turing to the literature, I found there were instruments for measuring Unified Acceptance of Technology and Use of Technology (Venkatech, Morris, Davis, & Davis, 2003) in business and industry populations, but I could find no instruments for measuring UATUT in k-12 educator populations. (UTAUT has been discussed in a previous post on this blog.) I decided to edit to the instrument used by Venkatesh et al. (2003), pilot it, then assess its internal validity.
More recently, I have been asked to assess the state of educational technology in other schools, and this instrument continues to be useful. Links to the slides I used when presenting my work are available as is the Google Site I used to deploy my instrument.
